Dromeas, The Runner [1]

Dromeas, The Runner [1]

Whilst I was in Athens, I took the Metro from Metaxourghio to Evangelismos (Line 2) in search of what was described to me as a sculpture of a runner ‘made of glass’ created by Costas Varotsos, next to the Hilton Hotel.

As I neared the huge crescent shaped building I was confronted by this enormous 12 metre tall (almost 30 foot) sculpture made entirely from panes of glass and steel. It was frighteningly beautiful as the sharp edges of the glass glistened in the mid-day sun.

I used a panning effect with my camera in photo 1, to give the added illusion of Dromeas running…

The Venetian Lighthouse, Chania

It’s not often I see a bargain on flights but on this occasion Ryanair were giving seats away from Manchester to Crete, The Greek island for £24.99!
Apparently it was the last direct flight from Manchester to the island and the date was 3 November 2015….when I boarded the plane I couldn’t believe how empty it was.
I landed in Chania on the west coast and had the most wonderful time of my life exploring the cities of Chania, Rethymno and Heraklion as a solo traveller.
It was very easy booking accommodation through Booking.com and Expedia.com, I would choose the cheapest option and always with breakfast included.

…..so let the journey begin!

The Equalizer, Gran Via, Granada, Spain

The Equalizer, Gran Capitan, Granada, Spain

On a walkabout around the city of Granada last summer, I caught sight of a woman rummaging through the bins and I instinctively reached for my iPhone for a sneaky quick shot whilst she was in the act.

Then it was a case of ‘quick, before she sees me….’

‘Oh no! Too late…she’s seen me’.

‘It’s now or never’ I tell myself.

‘Shoot! Shoot!’

Heck, what’s she got in the pram?

A baseball bat? A gun?

If looks could kill…!

I shoot, then disappear.

Only later when I perused through the day’s photos I noticed the image and title on the street billboard behind the woman and thought I’d witnessed a scene from the actual movie…haha!

VividSydney Festival | Australia

This time last year I was visiting my son who at the age of nineteen left Manchester UK and was living in Sydney and working for the retail store TopMan.

On 23 May 2014, I went to the beautiful City of Sydney to view the spectacular VIVID SYDNEY festival with a group of photography enthusiasts and was in awe of the colourful light projections that had Enveloped the sails of the iconic Opera House.

The shots were captured resting my camera on the handrail….the other million photographers were clever enough to use tripods!

MAY 2015 THEME CONTEST – MOTION BLUR CROWDS

I was drawn to a photography contest, run by Street Hunters.net a street photography group, whilst trawling the internet this morning.

Together with WP’s daily prompt ‘indecision’ I felt I just had to write this post.

Why?

I remember waiting (well hiding really) in the doorway of a building in Manchester one evening and experimenting with various shutter speeds whilst crowds of people were walking past the wall with an apt title ‘Manchester Means The World To Me’.

Now as you know I’m not a street photographer, which you can read about here and the first question to myself was:

‘Do I submit an image in colour or black and white?’

Secondly, ‘Which image do I submit?’….

So here is the gallery of images I drew inspiration from:

Do you think I fulfilled the brief?

Which image would you have submitted to the MOTION BLUR CROWDS contest?
